REPORT ON MODULE 5: UNDERSTANDING AND LEADING CHANGE – ADELAIDE 5-6 JULY 2007
Venue:    Balyana Conference Centre, Adelaide
Lead Trainers:  Mark Butz and Joan Firkins
Participants: 12

Précis:
This was the third presentation of Module 5
Participant feedback about the Module was very positive
We were able to adhere to the standard design with relatively few adjustments
Group size was very good
Venue was excellent

Content and Format:
The participant manual and trainer notes were as amended after the Module in Canberra in December 2006.  Those amendments worked well with the Adelaide group.
Subsequent debriefs led to suggestions for further amendments which will be incorporated into a revised version.

As was the case with the Canberra event, there was feedback and discussion regarding the human/personal impacts of change processes, leading to consideration of additional material, on the human/personal experience of change linked strongly to the four sessions.

Participant feedback
A summary analysis of participant feedback is attached below.

How would you sum up the benefit/value of participating in this training?
* I feel very well equipped to support my peers & clients
* Enables greater depth of understanding to why the ToP methods work so well & as a consequence enhance our use of those methods
* Valuable models to apply
I now have a take on action beyond strategic thinking & planning.  Other types of intervention & work with groups become possible.
* It has enabled me to think more deeply about my behaviour as a facilitator to my clients/constituents.  The models can present to you blind spots in your practice and being a facilitator
* Valuable to know there is solid theory behind the why of the methods
* Immense help in facilitation
* All positive – learning, networking, meeting new people

Total of 18 participants, from various geographic locations and levels of experience, plus two leaders

Précis
Participant feedback about the Module was very positive.
Group size was excellent
Venue was excellent

Participant feedback
This was good in all respects.  A summary analysis of participant feedback is attached below:

• It has enabled me to bring together applications and skills acquired in Presentation Skills training, Train the Trainer and this course to enhance and value-add to all knowledge
• Experience and knowledge in the use of a variety of facilitation and strategic planning tools
• Confidence
• A toolkit of techniques
• High quality knowledge and skills applicable to work and life
• Knowledge of facilitation processes

Broader reflections
This experience confirmed our earlier strong resolve to offer Modules 1-3 (including Module 3: Strategic Thinking and Planning) as one package wherever possible, organising the timing to meet the group's needs.
Two three-day sessions are very beneficial for the participant experience, with economies of timing in the program allowing a more relaxed progression, checking of understanding and greater flexibility to match group energy.
